Computacenter has today reaffirmed its circular services pledge – to recover a device for every new device sold – as part of its Sustainability Strategy.

The pledge is set out in the company’s newly released 2023 Sustainability Report, which describes the progress Computacenter made in 2023 in line with its Sustainability Strategy. The report underscores the organisation's enduring commitment to sustainability, with its Circular Services pledge emerging as a key focal point.

Computacenter’s Circular Services business addresses the end-of-life management of devices, through reuse, remarketing, and recycling. By extending device lifecycles and providing responsible disposal processes, they help to reduce the environmental impact of their customers’ IT estates and maximise the device life and residual value.

The company has stated that it intends to achieve its goal not by reducing the sale of new devices, but by increasing the number of devices it recovers, outlining plans to expand and industrialise its circular services offerings group wide.

Mo Siddiqi, Group Development Director, said “With over 30 years of expertise in circular services, Computacenter has a really strong foundation to achieve our ambition device recovery target, which we know will make a real difference for our customers, too.”

The Sustainability Report features the progress made by Computacenter in executing its Sustainability Strategy "Winning Together for Our People and Planet," structured around three core pillars—People, Planet, and Solutions. Key highlights include:

  • Computacenter surpassed industry benchmarks in its 2023 Group Employee Survey, achieving a Sustainable Engagement score of 83%, and an inclusion score of 88%.
  • Over 75% of Computacenter's electricity now comes from renewable sources. The company generated 2.3m kWh of electricity from its own solar farms, saving over 550,000 kgs of carbon.
  • Computacenter has been carbon neutral for absolute Scope 1 & 2 carbon emissions for two consecutive years.
  • In June 2023, Computacenter became one of the first in its industry to be approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term, long-term and Net Zero targets.
  • Computacenter avoided 117,000 tons of carbon though the redeployment & remarketing of devices and generated 748 tonnes of reuseable raw materials through the industrial recycling devices.

Mike Norris, Chief Executive Officer, said “2023 was another year of progress in line with our Sustainability ambitions, reflecting our enduring commitment to do the right thing for all of our stakeholders for the long-term.”
